Writers, Writing
Whether you are a writer or not, be original-and you can. You are
different! In all the history of mankind, there never has
been-and never will be-another person like you. Your thoughts and
personality, like your fingerprints, are your own.
Originality-not imitation-makes leaders. You do not push buttons
for originality; you pay with time and work. Gone With the
Wind was the reward for Margaret Mitchell, who confessed to
me, ``I am a very slow worker. It takes me two or three months to
write a chapter.''
Frank A. Dickson
I never know why I write about anything. People I've known or
subjects that move me invariably lead me to putting words on
paper.
Tennessee Williams
Frustration is some kind of useful part of a writer's makeup.
So is an inferiority complex. The challenge to beat these
feelings is enough to impel most people to succeed in their
chosen field, if only to prove to themselves that they are not
deficient. Unless you are convinced that you are a great writer
and are prepared to starve in a garret, having another job does
not impede your development as a writer.
