Worry
The destructive quality of worry is indicated by the fact that
the word itself is derived from an old Anglo-Saxon word meaning
``to choke.'' If someone were to put his fingers around your
throat and press hard, cutting off the flow of vital power, it
would be a dramatic demonstration of what you do to yourself by
long-held and habitual worry.
Dr. Norman Vincent Peale; The Power of Positive Thinking
(Prentice Hall)
You may be a happy natured person that has no interest in any
definition of worry. However, here is a simple one given by a
biochemist: ``Worry can be chemically defined as the psychic
reaction of somatic saturation with paralytic acid and monosomic
phosphate.''
Nashau Cavalier
Standing on a platform after a hard day, a man carrying a
heavy suitcase complained of weariness.
``Well,'' said his companion sensibly, ``why not put down that
suitcase? It's ten minutes yet till train time.''
That is the way a great many people worry. They do not do it
intentionally. But how can you stop worrying? The answer is
simple: Put the suitcase down when it is not necessary to
carry it.!
