Man and his Achievements
Human history is a magnificent pageant of successes and failures.
And we have always learned from the past the things necessary for
going forward into the future. The first step on the moon was
dramatic achievement. But so was the discovery that man could
grow plants to feed himself, or weave cloth to clothe himself. So
it doesn't hurt to look back on the long history of mankind and
the wonders that have been achieved. Look back on courage, on
self-reliance, on endurance, on fortitude, all the heritage that
the past has given us. This is the way to find a true evaluation
toward a glorious future.
Dr. Norman Vincent Peale
What are the 100 years of the history of the machine compared
with the 200,000 years of the history of man? It was only
yesterday that we began to pitch our camp in this country of
laboratories and power stations, that we took possession of this
new, this still unfinished house we live in.
Antoine de St. Exupery
Man is half ape, half angel, half matter and half spirit. Herein
lies his glory, his tragedy and the possibility of tremendous
things.
