Labor Relations
We tend to think of labor and management in exaggerated cartoon
symbols. Labor is tough, lean fellow in overalls and squared
paper hat. Management is a pot-bellied fellow with a big cigar
and silk hat. We had better expunge these false cliches from our
minds, because both fellows are Americans of roughly the same
material and psychological make-up. There are real
management-labor problems to be solved. Why prejudice the job in
advance by assuming that two different species of human beings
are involved?
Eric Johston, as president, Motion Picture Association, in
Good Business
In our present world, in this kind of prolonged tension and
struggle, a crippled industry or a demoralized working force
could be the equivalent of a lost battle.
Dwight D. Eisenhower, The Quotable Dwight D. Eisenhower
(Droke House)
Labor and management often quarrel like man and wife, but that
is no sign they want to get rid of each other.
Future
With labor and management working together in common cause,
and not against each other, we can build and produce and prosper,
and defeat any threat, from whatever source, against our own
security and the peace of the world.
