Juvenile Delinquency
Delinquency is a measure of adult neglect of children, for the
children are all right when we get them.
Earl C. Kelly, Agricultural Education Magazine
A young man stood before a judge to be sentenced for forgery.
The judge had been a great friend of the boy's father, who was
famous for his books on the law of trusts.
``Young man,'' said the judge sternly, ``do you remember your
father, that father whom you have disgraced?''
``I remember him perfectly,'' the young man answered quietly.
``When I went to him for advice or companionship he would say,
`Run away, boy I am busy.' My father finished his book and here I
am.''

Too many parents believe they are rendering their children a
service when they try to protect them from the harsh discipline
they remember from their own childhood or from the hard work they
experienced in their youth. Discipline does not need to be harsh,
and parents render their children a great disservice when they
fail to provide moderate and consistent discipline from infancy,
set limits on the child's behavior, and help him to take
increasing responsibility for his actions.
